I don’t know about you, but there are only so many parades I can do each Mardi Gras season. Especially this year, as it is really cold–as a friend put it: Antarcti-Gras. So, to keep pneumonia at bay, I’m sitting out parades today.
The sun is shining however, and I could use some things, and the therapy that is provided by rifling through said things at a flea market. I am going to play amateur jackass anthropologist and conjecture thusly: women in ancient times did the work of gathering, and because of that, there is something deeply satisfying to the female soul about rifling through junk and finding useful treasure.
If you hadn’t put together a Mardi Gras costume yet, you definitely should have found something at the flea market. And, because you know you’re going to have a pretty crusty night out, maybe you found some sort of pelt and an out-of-tune banjo to don this evening.
It’s a gypsy jazz block party on St. Claude Avenue tonight. It being carnival season, it’s the time of year to listen to raucous, energetic, fun music. And, don’t get me wrong, I love me a brass band, but sometimes you need a change of pace. Well, tonight at the Allways Lounge is the Panorama Jazz Band and Why Are We Building Such a Big Ship?, 10 pm. And, then across the street at the Hi Ho Lounge is Debauche and the New Orleans Klezmer Allstars, 10pm. Did you remember your pelt?
