Tonight, at The Inn on Bourbon Hotel, there is a screening of the controversial, 1978, Louis Malle film Pretty Baby starring a pre-teen Brooke Shields. She plays a girl growing up in a Storyville brothel in 1917 New Orleans–the year that prostitution became illegal. Her mother, played by Susan Sarandon, is a prostitute in the brothel who must find another way to get by. The photographer Ernest J. Bellocq is also a central character. He is largely famous for his photographs of Storyville prostitutes. Like this one:
Also, much of the film was shot at the Columns Hotel, a lovely place to have a cocktail before or after.
Free admission. 7:30 p.m.
