CAC’s Art For Arts’ Sake Kick-off & Louisiana Composers’ Forum

Art for Arts’ Sake, the annual city-wide art opening, is this Saturday, but there are all kinds of free things going on tonight as a sort-of kick-off. Firstly, this evening from 5-7pm,  La Cote Brasserie is having a Happy Hour consisting of FREE appetizers + FREE Rain Vodka cocktails (while they last, of course)

Then, at 7, over at the CAC is the FREE inaugural Louisiana Composers Forum. Here’s what they have to say about it:

The Louisiana Composers Forum is a first-time concert of new original works of music by local composers from Louisiana. The performance will feature compositions for a 20-piece orchestra comprised of New Orleans’ finest classical musicians, including several musicians from the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. This event will be free and open to the public. The Louisiana Composers Forum will feature 7 new works of music by 7 different composers. This year’s featured composers are Jonathan Freilich, Steven Sweetwyne, Brian Hanson, Bryan Fusilier, Elizabeth Joan Kelly, Kevin George, and Barry Blue Jr.

The Louisiana Composers Forum is being funded through grants from the Louisiana Division of the Arts and the City of New Orleans, as well as the New Orleans Musicians Assistance Foundation, with additional support from the Contemporary Arts Center of New Orleans.
