Avenue Q

So, Avenue Q is a puppet musical which draws inspiration from Sesame Street, but it is not for children. Let me repeat that, it is not for children. Please don’t take your nieces and nephews to see this, unless of course they are adults. It seems to be intended for anyone raised watching Sesame Street, who has then gone on to try to make it in the big city. The puppets live in outer borough New York (the fictional Avenue Q) and all have various dreams that are slowly being dashed by the hard realities of life. Ouch, a little too close to home…It is delightfully wicked. Take for instance this clip of the song, “Everyone’s a Little Bit Racist,” being performed on the West End in 2007.

Tickets are $25 and up. Tuesday-Saturday at 8pm. Saturday-Sunday at 2pm, and Sunday at 7:30pm. at the Mahalia Jackson Theater.
