I go see anything that ArtSpot Productions produces. They make some of the most interesting, serious theater in town. Their performances are conceptual, highly physical, usually involve some making of music, and beautiful, convertible, sculptural sets. Opening tonight is “Go Ye Therefore.” Here is what they have to say about it:
Go Ye Therefore… is a story about two southern women — one white, one black, both daughters and granddaughters of Baptist preachers — rooted in different racial and cultural worship traditions. New Orleans native Kathy Randels and first generation Zimbabwean-American Rebecca Mwase trouble the waters of their Baptist upbringings in search of spirituality’s truth, and revel in the unifying joy of song as they explore the Bible, Baptist history, and the tenuous relationship between the Missionary and the Native.
Performances at 5168 St. Roch Ave. Thursdays-Sundays, 7pm. May 14 – June 6. No performances Saturday and Sunday, May 29th and 30th. $20. $15 students, seniors and artists.
