So, February is National Heart Month. Frankly, the reason I know this is because of that Project Runway Campbell Soup challenge a few back. (May I just point out that that product is RIFE with sodium)?
So, yeah Heart Month, anybody else out there not have proper health care? With so many New Orleanians in the hospitality and entertainment businesses, myself included, we have extremely low rates of employer-based health care. So, if you’re anything like me, you’ve had to cobble together some semblance of it. If you have only the “I won’t go bankrupt if something catastrophic happens” coverage, you might miss out on a lot of important preventative health care. So, it makes sense to take advantage of events like these. Today from 10-1, Ochsner nurses are setting up shop at area Rouse’s and administering FREE total cholesterol, HDL and glucose screenings, at these locations.
- 4500 Tchoupitoulas Street in New Orleans
- 2851 Belle Chasse Highway in Gretna
- 3461 E. Causeway Approach in Mandeville
Tomorrow, from 10-1, at these locations:
- 400 N. Carrollton Ave. in New Orleans
- 1644 Gause Blvd. in Slidell
- 204 N. Canal Blvd. in Thibodaux
While we’re at Rouse’s, and since every Friday during Lent they are having their annual “Seafood Extravaganza!”, we may as well pick us up some Bayou Boys hot boiled seafood from the pot. We will try to not point out the irony of the giant bag of boiled shrimp we have in hand when we get our cholesterol screening.
Well, hopefully the news was good, and they didn’t carry you off on a stretcher. So, now you’ve done something good for yourself, how about doing some good for others? (BTW: We are doing excellent on our Lenten program of healthiness and goodness). Over at Zeitgiest, from 4-7 is “Lambi a Rele: a Celebration of Arts to benefit Haiti.” There will be Haitian food, a silent auction, a raffle and live music.
